Who Are We

Established in 1995, Jordan River Foundation (JRF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO), chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah. We are driven by values of social justice, impactful interventions to alleviate poverty, and empowering the community with a focus on women and youth. Our Programs

JRF realizes its mission of empowering communities and promoting child safety and protection through implementing its programs. The holistic approach used in JRF programs is unmatched in the country, and even the region, where using services like case management allows for effective intervention. JRF makes every step count whether in supporting entrepreneurship or in helping families maintain their unity.

The Foundation has two main programs and a multitude of services, initiatives, and community centers that carry its mission to empower communities and promote family and child safety. Program beneficiaries here are the biggest testament to JRF’s impact; JRF initiatives have succeeded in creating sustainable livelihoods for individuals and communities, as well as in creating healthier families.

Since the establishment of the Foundation, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah has been involved in all aspects of its growth and development. In her role as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Her Majesty chairs board meetings and provides visionary leadership to ensure the continuity of long-term, impact-oriented programs.

The Foundation’s Board of Trustees is comprised of individuals from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, and they all work hand in hand to provide guidance and expertise towards the strategic development of JRF. In their capacities, they oversee and monitor the implementation of all JRF projects, whilst ensuring the proper implementation of required administrative and financial systems and procedures. Among the Board’s key responsibilities is the utilization of sound fiscal and ethical accounting and management practices, ultimately ensuring that the Foundation maintains full transparency and accountability at all times. The Board meets on a quarterly basis to oversee the smooth execution of all JRF activities and legal responsibilities. It also lays down strategies and approves long-term strategic and annual business plans.

Good governance is essential for effective performance; thus, the Foundation continuously strives to serve as a model for progressive NGO governance in the region. The Board also includes several permanent committees, such as an Executive and Adult Committee, which welcome other board members to their meetings. When needed, and on a periodic basis, ad-hoc committees are also convened for specific purposes.
Additionally, economic, environmental, and social issues are regularly reviewed by the Board, which works together with the Foundation to actively adopt environmentally sound approaches within projects and initiatives. This is evident in the Foundation’s adoption of a policy for undertaking environmental assessment and in obtaining government sign-offs on community empowerment projects initiated by JRF.
